BOWEL MOVEMENT WITH BLOOD: DESCRIPTION AND POSSIBLE MEDICAL PROBLEMS

The topic of hemorrhoids is not a pleasant one. However, they seem to make their way onto the nightly news programs via commercials for Preparation H and other hemorrhoid treatments with great regularity.

The truth is that hemorrhoids are pretty common among Americans aged 40 and up. If you have hemorrhoids, you’ll notice that the stool itself is well formed and that the blood usually appears around the stool.

Hemorrhoids are the distended veins that appear on the edge of the rectum. If they appear outside the anus, they are external hemorrhoids; if they remain inside the rectum, they ate internal hemorrhoids. Many people with hemorrhoids have a combination of the two. In young women, hemorrhoids are most often due to pregnancy and childbirth. And in any age group, they can be caused by eating a diet that’s low in fiber or by having hard stools. Many people get hemorrhoids from sitting on the John for long periods of time while reading. A general lack of exercise—which decreases the frequency of bowel movements as well as making the stool harder—and spending a lot of time sitting, which creates more pressure on the rectal veins, also increases the risk of hemorrhoids.
